Bosun's Chairs

Taken from Cowstails and Cobras by Karl Rohnke
Categorie: Low Ropes Course

The object is to progress from "chair" to "chair". Only feet are allowed to support the participant's weight on the "chairs". If the student is having a very difficult time however and a success experience is desired, anything goes. Spotting is very important for the participants on this element as real arm strength is needed for holding onto the vertical support ropes. Letting go is often an involuntary consequence of fatigued arms. Getting onto and off the Bosun's Chair is a challenge in itself.

An infinite variety of precarious positions are possible. Holding onto the overhead horizontal support rope (or wire) is not allowed and of course this apparatus should be constructed so that the wire is too far overhead to grab. (Refer to book for construction). Chairs made from rope and 2" x 4", 2'-3' apart hanging from a 20'-40' long rope.
